Colorblind: Perfect Pitch
Zayne Harshaw was a teenager fascinated by Guitar Hero when he asked his mother and father for "the real thing." Little did the Harshaw family know that this seemingly innocuous hobby would open up a creative musical world of confidence and growth for Zayne. The self-taught musician has perfect pitch, and his story is inspiring individuals in both the disability and music communities. However, Zayne's accomplishments would be nothing without the support and love of his amazing parents, Gwen and Gene Harshaw. I had the fortune of sitting down for an informal morning conversation with the three about autism, music, growth, and identity. After listening to our chat, please check out Gwen's Ted Talk and Zayne's tribute to the immortal artist Prince.
Thank you to the Harshaws for their bravery, love, solidarity, and inspiration. Zayne, may you continue to be a role model throughout your life and musical career.
